Features Of The Samsung Galaxy S8
The Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 5.8" Super AMOLED screen which is .7" bigger but the body is just a few millimeters larger than its predecessor, the S7, thanks to its radical but elegant edge to edge phone display. With Super AMOLED screen technology, pictures, and videos are brighter and deeper in color compared to normal IPS or TFT displays. To accommodate the large screen, Samsung retired the physical home button to give way to an on-screen button intuitively buried underneath the screen.
The main camera of the S8 and S8 plus series were borrowed from the S7's marvelous 12 MP Dual Pixel camera technology but is packed with impressive software improvements like the Pro mode which lets you play with a variety of camera settings found in digital cameras. The front camera, however, boasts an 8 MP, as compared to S7's 5 MP, plus a host of software refinements such as auto focus, Auto HDR and it's own mode selector. Lastly, the camera is capable of recording up to 4K videos @30fps, although impressive, but is no different from its predecessor.
The S8 has a 64 GB internal storage and supports up to 512 GB via Micro SD card. While the Galaxy S7 has 32 GB and 64 GB internal variations but supports up to 256 GB only.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 has a single 32-bit/384KHz downward firing mono speaker located at the bottom right and is worth noting that it is loud. It also has an active noise canceling feature with a dedicated mic to filter out background noise for a much quieter phone conversation.
You can unlock the S8 using a fingerprint reader located at the back beside the camera, which is fast but could be cumbersome if you have small hands. The other options are the Iris scanner and the face scanner which could be more convenient depending on lighting conditions. It is worth noting though that you can only use either the face or the iris scanner but not both at the same time. You are never short of options when unlocking this phone but if these are not enough, you can always opt for the old school pin or swipe unlock.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 has an Octa-core (4x2.3 GHz Mongoose M2 & 4x1.7 GHz Cortex-A53) - EMEA Octa-core (4x2.35 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo) - USA & China. The latest innovation in the 10nm processor, which were built into the phones, spits out 26% more power, and 21% efficiency over the S7. The powerful chip made it faster but consumes lesser energy.
The S8 uses the same 3,000 mAh that the S7 uses but due to improvements in chip technology, battery efficiency greatly increased. Talk time using 3G network can last up to 24:30 hours, web browsing 10:05 hours and video playback up to 14:32 hours. Lastly, this phone is equipped with fast and wireless charging.
This phone is rated IP68, the same as S7, which means it is dust- and water-resistant with depths of up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
