Boost Mobile Plans

Boost Mobile is a prepaid carrier that now routes calls and data over AT&T and T-Mobile's networks after a turbulent ownership run through Sprint, DISH Network, and DirecTV. Three plans start at $25/month. No contracts, no credit checks. The network backstory is complicated; the plans themselves are not.

Boost Mobile has had a complicated few years. It started as a prepaid brand on Sprint's network, got folded into T-Mobile when Sprint was acquired, then was sold to DISH Network in 2020 as a merger divestiture condition. DISH spent several years attempting to build a new 5G network from scratch — an unusual thing for a carrier to try — with Boost as the retail face of that effort. The network build moved slower than projected. By 2024, DISH was in serious financial trouble, and EchoStar sold Boost to DirecTV. Today Boost runs on AT&T and T-Mobile infrastructure while the DISH-era network fades out. Three active plans, all starting at $25/month, with 36 phones available from $119.99. For a carrier that has changed hands three times in five years, the lineup is slim but clear: unlimited talk and text, tiered data, no annual contracts. The AT&T and T-Mobile dual-network setup isn't a blanket upgrade over single-network MVNOs — it depends on which network a given SIM is routed to in a given area. Coverage is worth checking by zip code before committing.
Fun Facts About Boost Mobile
Boost Mobile was founded in Australia in 2000 before landing in the US on the Nextel network. It survived three ownership changes in five years: Sprint sold it to DISH Network in 2020, DISH tried (and mostly failed) to build its own 5G network around it, and then EchoStar sold Boost to DirecTV in 2024. It is the only major prepaid brand to have been used as a government-mandated merger divestiture chip — twice, arguably.
