Our takeEditorial
The cheapest active 5G Moto G — get it for someone who wants 5G and a long battery and does not care about the camera.

The Optimist
“For $249 it pairs 5G with a 1000-nit screen and two-day battery, which is rare under $300.”

The Cynic
“Spending $50 more on the regular Moto G 5G - 2026 trades up to a 50 MP rear and 32 MP front camera.”

Our take

A 6.7-inch 120 Hz LCD, 5G, and a 5200 mAh battery for $250 — the cheapest 5G Moto in the lineup.

The Moto G Play 5G - 2026 is the second-cheapest 5G phone Motorola sells in the US, slotting in below the regular Moto G 5G - 2026. H2O Wireless lists it at $249.99 for the 64 GB version, and at that price you get a 6.7-inch 120 Hz LCD, sub-6 5G, and the same 5200 mAh battery as its more expensive sibling. The compromises versus the standard G 5G - 2026 are the camera setup — 32 MP rear and 8 MP front, both a step down — and faux-leather plastic instead of a smoother finish. The Dimensity 6300 chip and 4 GB of RAM are unchanged. For someone who cares mostly about battery life and basic 5G connectivity at the lowest possible price, this is a defensible buy. For anyone who plans to actually use the camera, the $50 jump to the standard Moto G 5G is worth it.

What we love
  • 5200 mAh battery delivers comfortable two-day life on light use. Sub-6 5G is included
  • which the older Moto G Play 4G could not offer. The 6.7-inch 120 Hz LCD makes the interface feel smoother than rivals at this price. 1000-nit peak brightness handles outdoor use better than most budget Motorolas.
What we don't
  • 32 MP main camera is a downgrade from the standard Moto G 5G's 50 MP
  • and the 8 MP front camera is a much bigger step down from the 32 MP front on the regular model. Dimensity 6300 with 4 GB RAM stutters on demanding apps and games. There is no IP rating
  • no wireless charging
  • and 18W wired charging is slow. Plastic body with faux-leather back feels its price.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Motorola Moto G Play 5G - 2026

What kind of display does the Motorola Moto G Play 5G - 2026 have?
The 6.7-inch IPS LCD runs at 120 Hz with a peak brightness of 1000 nits — both real upgrades over the older Moto G Play. The catch is resolution. At 1604x720, you get about 263 pixels per inch, which looks soft on a screen this large. Outdoor visibility is better than most budget Motorolas thanks to the higher peak brightness. For watching video, social, and reading at arm's length, the panel does its job. For long reading or detail-heavy work, the resolution shows.
What kind of camera does the Motorola Moto G Play 5G - 2026 have?
The single 32 MP rear sensor handles daylight shots adequately — colors are reasonable and exposure is competent. There is no ultrawide or telephoto and no optical stabilization, so low light gets noisy and motion blurs. The 8 MP front camera handles video calls and quick selfies without surprises but cannot match the 32 MP front shooter on the standard Moto G 5G.
What is the battery life of the Motorola Moto G Play 5G - 2026?
The 5200 mAh cell is the best part of this phone. Light use stretches comfortably across two days. Heavy days with hotspot tethering or gaming still finish with charge to spare. 18W wired charging is faster than the 4G Moto G Play but still slow by current standards — a full top-up takes most of two hours. There is no wireless charging.
What processor does the Motorola Moto G Play 5G - 2026 use?
The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 is a budget 5G chip designed for everyday use. Web browsing, social apps, and casual gaming run fine. Heavier games drop frames or run on lower settings, and switching between several memory-heavy apps causes reloads thanks to the 4 GB RAM ceiling. The chip is the same one in the standard Moto G 5G, so performance is identical between the two.
How much storage does the Motorola Moto G Play 5G - 2026 have?
This is a 64 GB phone with microSD expansion. 64 GB fills up quickly with photos and apps, and heavy use will want to add a card or move media off the device. For a basic communication phone, it is workable.
What kind of speakers does the Motorola Moto G Play 5G - 2026 have?
Single bottom-firing speaker. Loud enough for casual video and speakerphone, but thin sound and no real bass. There is no stereo pairing on this tier.
Does the Motorola Moto G Play 5G - 2026 support fingerprint or face unlock?
Side-mounted fingerprint sensor in the power button. Fast and reliable in daily use. Face unlock is camera-based and convenient but not secure enough for banking apps.
Is the Motorola Moto G Play 5G - 2026 water-resistant?
No formal IP rating. Motorola lists a water-repellent coating, which means the phone will survive rain or a small splash but should not be submerged.
