Our takeEditorial
A bare-minimum prepaid Android at $49.99 — get it for someone who needs a phone that rings, not a smartphone that does everything.
The Optimist
“At $49.99 it covers the basics for someone who has never had a smartphone and is not sure they want one.”
The Cynic
“The Nokia C100 at $19.99 does the same job for less money, and the Moto G Play at $79 does it ten times better.”
Our take
A 5.45-inch budget Android for $49.99 — calls, texts, and not much more.
The Orbic Maui+ is a $49.99 prepaid Android sold by TracFone, sitting in the same tier as the Nokia C100 — the basic-utility phone for someone who needs a working device at the lowest price the carrier offers. The spec sheet is what you would expect: a 5.45-inch HD LCD, a Helio A22 chip, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, an 8 MP rear camera, a 3000 mAh battery, and Android 10 — already two major versions out of date when launched. There is no 5G, no fingerprint reader, no fast charging, and software updates ended years ago. For a backup line, a kid's first phone, or someone who just needs to call and text reliably on prepaid, the Maui+ does the job. For anything more demanding, the math is brutal — every spec is at the floor of what a 2026 smartphone offers.
What we love
At $49.99 outright on TracFone it is among the cheapest active Android phones in the catalog. Compact 5.45-inch screen and 141g weight make it easy to use one-handed. Includes microSD support to expand the small 32 GB storage. Android 10 Go-style overhead is light enough that core apps still load on the limited 3 GB RAM.
What we don't
Helio A22 with 3 GB RAM is slow even for messaging and browsing — pages and apps stutter constantly. 32 GB storage fills up quickly and limits how many apps fit. The 8 MP rear camera is fine in good light and unusable after dark. No 5G
no IP rating
no fingerprint sensor
and only 5W wired charging. Software support ended years ago
so the phone is on a stale Android 10.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about the Orbic Maui+
What kind of display does the Orbic Maui+ have?
The 5.45-inch IPS LCD runs HD resolution at 60 Hz. Text is sharp enough up close, but the panel is dim and washes out outside. Touch response is fine. For checking messages, reading short text, and casual video, it does the job. For long reading sessions or any kind of detailed work, the resolution and brightness show their limits.
What kind of camera does the Orbic Maui+ have?
The single 8 MP rear sensor takes workable daylight shots — well-exposed in good light, fine for a quick snapshot to send. Low light is unusable; photos come out dark, grainy, and blurry. The 5 MP front camera handles video calls beyond that does little. There is no Night mode, no HDR worth using, and no second lens.
What is the battery life of the Orbic Maui+?
The 3000 mAh battery is small by current standards but the low-power Helio A22 chip stretches it across a day of light use. A heavy day with hotspot or video will end well before bedtime. Charging is slow at 5W — a full top-up takes most of three hours.
What processor does the Orbic Maui+ use?
The MediaTek Helio A22 is an entry-level 4G chip from 2018 and it shows in 2026. Web pages and social apps lag noticeably, gaming is mostly off the table, and switching between several apps causes noticeable reloads. Android 10 is stale, and the lack of updates means new apps will increasingly drop support.
How much storage does the Orbic Maui+ have?
32 GB internal storage with microSD expansion. After Android and the basic apps, room for media and additional apps is tight. A microSD card helps with photos and music but app installs still go to internal storage.
What kind of speakers does the Orbic Maui+ have?
Single bottom-firing speaker. Loud enough for speakerphone calls and basic video. Sound quality is thin with no real bass. Stereo is not part of this tier.
Does the Orbic Maui+ support fingerprint or face unlock?
No fingerprint sensor on the Orbic Maui+. Unlock options are PIN, pattern, password, or basic camera-based face unlock — convenient for casual use, not secure enough for banking apps.
Is the Orbic Maui+ water-resistant?
No IP rating and no formal water-repellent claim from Orbic. Treat this phone like any non-resistant device — keep it away from water.
