Our take

Samsung's 2026 Ultra arrives with a faster chip, faster charging, and a new reason to reconsider the year-old model.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is Samsung's 2026 top-tier flagship, building on the S25 Ultra formula with incremental but meaningful upgrades. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 pushes performance further. Wired charging rises to 60W and wireless to 25W, both improvements over the S25 Ultra. The 5000 mAh battery, 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display at 3120 x 1440 px, and quad-camera system with 200 MP main and 5x optical zoom carry over from the prior generation. The S Pen remains a built-in differentiator.

At $1,299 from Visible, the S26 Ultra enters a crowded premium tier. The 60W charging is the most tangible hardware improvement over the S25 Ultra. Android 16 ships out of the box. Samsung continues its seven-year update commitment. Sub6 and mmWave 5G are present along with dual-SIM and eSIM support. For anyone currently on an S24 Ultra or earlier, the S26 Ultra is a meaningful step. For S25 Ultra owners, the charging speed upgrade is the clearest practical gain.

What we love
  • 60W wired charging is a meaningful jump from the S25 Ultra's 45W
  • 25W wireless charging leads the Android flagship tier
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 continues the performance trajectory
  • 5x optical telephoto with 200 MP main camera
  • Built-in S Pen stylus
  • 5000 mAh battery
  • Seven-year OS update commitment with Android 16 on launch
What we don't
  • $1,299 entry price; limited differentiation from the S25 Ultra for existing owners
  • Body material data sparse in early specs
  • Galaxy AI still requires Samsung account for most features
  • No microSD expansion

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra

What kind of display does the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra have?
The 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel runs at 3120 x 1440 px with a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and 2600 nits peak brightness. These specs are essentially identical to the S25 Ultra display, which was already a reference-class panel. The flat-sided design continues from the S25 generation. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is expected on the face. At this size and resolution, individual pixels are invisible at any normal viewing distance. Outdoor readability at 2600 nits handles direct sunlight.
What kind of camera does the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra have?
The S26 Ultra carries Samsung's established quad-camera architecture: 200 MP main, 50 MP ultrawide, 5x periscope telephoto, and a 10 MP 3x telephoto. The 200 MP sensor enables generous crop flexibility and detailed daylight images. Samsung's ProVisual Engine handles multi-frame noise reduction and HDR. The 5x periscope telephoto delivers sharp results through 10x and manages usable digital zoom beyond that. Night mode is available across all four lenses. Galaxy AI editing tools - Generative Edit, Object Eraser, and Remaster - remain present. The S Pen supports stabilized long-exposure captures. Camera hardware improvements over the S25 Ultra are incremental; the main gains in this generation are processing speed and charging.
What is the battery life of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra?
5000 mAh with 60W wired charging is the S26 Ultra's most tangible hardware upgrade. A 60W charge can recover a meaningful percentage in 20-30 minutes - faster than the S25 Ultra's 45W ceiling. Wireless charging at 25W is also an improvement and covers the most common overnight scenario. Reverse wireless at 5W handles accessories. Real-world endurance at 5000 mAh with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 should deliver a full day's use for most workloads.
What processor does the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra use?
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is Qualcomm's 2026 flagship chip - the next step in the 8 Elite lineage. It delivers improved CPU throughput and GPU performance over the 8 Elite variant used in the S25 Ultra. On-device AI inference for Galaxy AI features runs noticeably faster on the Gen 5 compared to the prior generation. Thermal management in the S26 Ultra chassis allows sustained performance in demanding workloads.
How much storage does the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra have?
256 GB UFS storage is the base configuration. No microSD slot. Higher tiers are available at additional cost. 256 GB is the practical minimum for a primary phone with extensive camera use and app libraries.
What kind of speakers does the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra have?
The S26 Ultra continues Samsung's stereo speaker configuration with Dolby Atmos tuning. Earpiece tweeter and bottom-firing woofer arrangement delivers good stereo separation for media playback. Volume and clarity are among the better results in the Android flagship tier, consistent with the S25 generation.
Does the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra support fingerprint or face unlock?
An ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor handles primary authentication - reliable with wet or slightly dirty fingers. Face unlock via the front camera is available as a supplement. Qualcomm's 3D Sonic Max technology covers a wider unlock surface than previous generations, improving reliability in off-center touch scenarios.
Is the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra water-resistant?
IP68 maintains the standard flagship protection rating: 1.5 m submersion in fresh water for 30 minutes. Splashes, rain, and brief water exposure are all covered. Pool chemicals, salt water, and high-pressure spray are outside the rating. Seals degrade with physical wear over time.
