Google Pixel 3 Won’t Charge? Here’s The Fix.

Your phone's battery is running low, so you go to plug it in, but nothing happens. It's stressful when you need to use your phone, but your Google Pixel 3 won't charge. Here, we'll show you how to troubleshoot this problem and get your phone charging again!

Force Restart Your Pixel 3

Your phone might be experiencing a software crash that makes the screen appear black while charging. A forced restart will refresh your software and eliminate issues, like the black screen, that make your Google Pixel 3 appear like it's not charging.

Android Device Protection

Before beginning a force restart, you need to know about Android Device Protection. This program keeps your phone safe, if it's ever stolen, by requiring your Google Account's username and password. Make sure you know your Google Account credentials or disable Android Device Protection, so you don't get locked out of your device.

Hard Reset

To perform the hard reset, begin by completely shutting down your Google Pixel 3. Once your phone is off, press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons until the bootloader mode shows up. On the right-hand side of your screen, you'll see Start. Use the Volume Buttons to rotate through the options until you see Recovery Mode. You can enter recovery mode by clicking the Power button.

From here, the device will flash the Google logo before beginning Recovery Mode. If you see an image of a broken android appear on your screen with the words No Command, then something went wrong. Press and hold the Power button, then press the Volume Up button once, and release the Power button.

If you see the Android Recovery screen, then everything is working correctly. You'll need to select Wipe Data, then Yes when prompted. The process will take a few minutes to complete. When ready, select Reboot System Now to finish the reset, which will also take a few minutes.

Finally, you'll need to setup your phone and the problem should be fixed! We want to note that while this may fix for the problem you're experiencing, it won't fix the issue that caused the software crash in the first place. If your Google Pixel 3 refusing to charge is a recurring issue, keep reading to see what you can do next.

Backup Your Google Pixel 3

We recommend backing up the information on your Google Pixel 3 before you continue troubleshooting. This will protect your information, in case something goes wrong.

Would you prefer to have your phone backup your data automatically? You can turn on Automatic Backups to regularly backup your data to Google Drive. Start by opening Settings. From here, click System, then select Backup. Toggle the Backup to Google Drive switch to enable Automatic Backups.

Check Your Charging Cable

This step may seem intuitive, but we want to remind you, in case you forgot. Double-check  that your charging cable is still in good shape and look for any damage like fraying. We also recommend trying a different charging cable and outlet. This way, you can be sure that the reason your Google Pixel 3 won't charge is because of a problem with your phone.

Clean Out Your Pixel's Charging Port

Your Google Pixel 3 not charging could also be the result of a dirty charging port. Any lint, dirt, and debris stuck inside the port can prevent your Pixel from charging, and you can shine a flashlight to check. Use an anti-static brush or a brand new toothbrush to carefully clean out the port of your Pixel and remove any debris.

Factory Restore Google Pixel 3

A factory restore is the last trouble-shooting step to rule out a software problem. If your Google Pixel 3 isn't charging after this step, then you'll need to get it repaired. Make sure to back up your information before attempting a factory restore. Also confirm that your Google Account credentials are correct before you begin.

To start, open your Pixel's Settings application and select System. Next, tap Advanced, then Reset Options, Erase all data, and finally Reset Phone. You might prompted to enter your PIN, pattern, or password before the process starts. Then, select Erase Everything to wipe your Google Pixel's internal data. When your phone is finished, select Restart.

The factory reset returns your Pixel to its original state at the time of purchase, which means you'll lose all of your settings and data. You'll also need to setup your phone again. Or, you can restore your information from a backup to quickly return your phone to your preferred settings.

Get Your Pixel Repaired

Unfortunately, if your Google Pixel 3 won't charge after the factory reset, then there's a hardware issue. We don't recommend attempting to fix this at home unless you're very familiar with your device. Instead, we suggest you that take it in for repair. You can do this through Google Store's Repair Center by setting up an appointment online!
