iPhone Ceramic Shield announcement

What Is iPhone Ceramic Shield? What You Need To Know.

Apple has announced a new lines of iPhones packed with some great new features. One of those features is an improved display, capable of withstanding accidental drops better than previous models. In this article, I'll tell you everything you need to know about iPhone Ceramic Shield!

What Is Ceramic Shield?

Ceramic Shield is the most recent product of Apple's collaboration with Corning Glass. Together, these companies set out to manufacture the strongest and best-looking displays for a smartphone.

Ceramic Shield is a meticulously crafted crystalline glass, making the iPhone 12 displays stronger and clearer than ever. Paired with the iPhone 12 line's Super Retina XDR display, users can enjoy an aspect ratio of 2,000,000:1 on their screen with a resolution more than double the quality of the iPhone 11.

Apple prioritized strength as much as they did aesthetics for this project. As a result, the iPhone 12 shows a 4x improvement on drop performance than the iPhone 11.

Which iPhones Feature Ceramic Shield?

Each of the 4 new iPhones — iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max — Apple announced at the recent release event come with Ceramic Shield displays.

Do I Still Need A Case?

With such a marked improvement in regards to drop testing and general durability, you might be wondering if the iPhone 12 line will still require a case. The short answer is yes, you probably still need a case.

The iPhone 12 line is stronger, but not invincible. We recommend getting a case with raised edges to minimize drop impacts and lower the likelihood of scratching or cracking the display. You can get one of these cases for about $10, a small investment to protect your $1000 iPhone.
