Test Your iPhone’s Vibration Motor

1 min read

Now that your vibration settings are set up correctly, you can test to see if the vibration motor is working on your iPhone by flipping the Ring / Silent switch on the left side of your iPhone. The vibration motor is the hardware component of your iPhone that makes it vibrate.

  1. Flip the Ring / Silent switch on the left side of your iPhone back and forth a few times.
  2. If your iPhone doesn’t vibrate, the vibration motor may be broken, but there could still be a software issue at play.

Why this works:

If your iPhone doesn’t vibrate when you flip the Ring / Silent switch back and forth, there may be a hardware issue with its vibration motor.

Pro tip:

  • When the Ring / Silent switch is pulled towards the back of your iPhone, it is set to Silent.
  • When the Ring / Silent switch is pushed towards the front of the screen, it is set to Ring.
