Is The Google Pixel 6 Waterproof? Here’s The Truth!

Many of the most popular phones circulating today boast how “waterproof” they are, but are these devices actually waterproof? Rather than experimenting with your Google Pixel 6, we can look at the technical specs and Google's fine print to determine how “waterproof” your phone really is. In this article, I'll answer the question: is the Google Pixel 6 waterproof?

Is The Google Pixel 6 Waterproof?

No, the Google Pixel 6 is water-resistant, not waterproof. The fine print of the Google Pixel 6 specs page states the device “is not waterproof.” Google also states that the Pixel 6's water-resistance is not permanent and can diminish over time from natural wear and tear or drops on a hard surface.

The Google Pixel 6 has an ingress protection rating of IP68. Generally, an IP68 rating indicates a device is completely protected from contact with dust and can be submerged beyond one meter of water (usually up to two meters) for up to thirty minutes.

While your Google Pixel 6 will probably be fine, we don't recommend showing this off as a party trick. Liquid damage will void the warranty of your Google Pixel, and as we mentioned earlier, water-resistance isn't permanent.

What Is An Ingress Protection Rating?

An ingress protection rating, or IP rating, assesses the water- and dust-resistance of a device. The first digit of the rating indicates protection against solids like sand, dust, and dirt. The second digit indicates protection from water.

The highest IP rating a device can currently receive is a IP69K. IP68, the standard rating for modern smartphones, is the second highest.
