Can I Fix A Cracked iPhone 6s Screen

Can I Fix A Cracked iPhone 6s Screen? Here’s The Truth!

You just dropped your iPhone 6s and the screen is damaged. Now you're left wondering what you should do next. In this article, I'll walk you through how to assess the damage, explain what your options are, and help you make the right choice to fix your cracked iPhone 6s screen!

What Should I Do First?

The first step to take when your iPhone 6s screen is cracked or broken is to clean up any pieces of glass that may have come loose when you dropped or smashed your iPhone. We recommend pressing a stripe of clear packing tape over the screen to pick up all the broken pieces and keep yourself safe from cuts. Even if you can’t see any loose pieces, it's still a good idea to do this, just in case.

How Badly Was The Screen Damaged?

There are typically two types of broken iPhone 6s screens: ones that are completely shattered and ones that just have minor hairline fractures. It's usually easy to tell when the screen is completely shattered, as the cracks will probably cover the entire face of the phone.

A fully shattered display may mean you can no longer use your iPhone's touch screen. If your iPhone 6s screen is completely broken, it's probably best to go ahead and get the screen replaced.

However, if the screen has just a hairline fracture, your iPhone 6s may still be completely functional. Check and make sure the display is still functioning properly and that the crack isn’t affecting the touch screen.

While a cracked iPhone screen isn’t ideal, you can likely learn to ignore it and save yourself the cost of a repair. Additionally, Apple may cover your screen replacement under AppleCare+ if  there's just a single hairline crack on the display.

Back Up Your iPhone

Before getting your broken iPhone 6s screen repaired, we strongly recommend backing up your iPhone. This will save a copy of all the information on your iPhone, including your photos, videos, and contacts.

Right now, we can't be completely sure how bad the damage is, so it's best to back up your iPhone just in case.

iPhone 6s Screen Repair Options

If you choose to have your cracked iPhone 6s screen repaired, you have a couple of good options. The first place you'll want to consider is Apple, especially if your iPhone 6s is still covered by an AppleCare+ warranty. Apple should be able to repair the screen for a very low cost.

Apple will still fix your iPhone 6s even if you don't have AppleCare+, but it'll be a bit more expensive. If you have an Apple Store close by, make a Genius Bar appointment to have your device diagnosed. Alternatively, you can schedule a mail-in repair on Apple's support website.

The Do-It-Yourself Fix

If you don't like the idea of paying someone else to fix your iPhone, you might be able to do it yourself. Keep in mind that these options can void your iPhone's warranty and may cause further damage if not done correctly. Unless you have some experience personally repairing iPhones, we highly suggest taking your's to a professional.

Sometimes upgrading to a new phone is a better (and less expensive) option. The money you would've spent on a repair can be used to purchase a brand new phone!
