You have an incoming call, but you're not hearing anything. Why isn't my phone ringing? In this article, I'll be explaining why your Google Pixel 4 won't ring and how to fix this problem.
Unknown Callers May Be Silenced
In trying to diagnose the issue, first ask yourself if the person calling you is in your contacts. Each Google Pixel 4 update is meant to enhance your experience with the device and eliminate unnecessary issues. One of the most recent updates actually silences unknown callers. This is to try and stop robocalls from reaching you!
Almost everyone hates those spam calls making this a great new feature, so if your Google Pixel 4 isn't ringing it might be an automated call getting blocked.
Turn Off Silent Mode
This may seem like an obvious answer, but sometimes it's the most obvious solutions that slip our minds. Before continuing, let's be sure to turn off Silent Mode on your Google Pixel 4. Follow these steps to do exactly that:
- Press the upper or lower volume button (it doesn't matter which one)
- Press the sound mode icon that appears on your screen.
After doing this the sound mode icon should show without a line through it, indicating that you've turned off Silent Mode.
Turn Ringer Up All The Way
Next, let's turn your ringer all the way up and check the sound again. You can do this by pressing the volume up button until it's at the maximum level. You can also navigate to Settings when you press the volume button. This route will give the option to adjust the specific volume levels for media, calls, alarms, and ring individually. You'll want to make sure the ringer option is all the way up.
Turn Off Do Not Disturb
I'm sure you've realized this by now, but running through all of these smaller fixes can help to avoid unnecessary repairs. Turning off the Do Not Disturb feature on your Google Pixel 4 could solve the problem just as easily as the other steps, so let's see if it does the trick!
To turn off this setting you just swipe down from the top of your phone's screen and then tap on Do Not Disturb. Make sure you're turning this setting off instead of turning it on if it wasn't previously activated. For the Google Pixel 4, laying your device face down automatically activates Do Not Disturb, so it's possible you've had it on without realizing it.
Clean Out The Charging Port
You'd be surprised how much dirt and dust can build up inside your speakers and charging port over time. If this is the case with your device, it's possible your Pixel is being tricked into thinking headphones are plugged in. When headphones are plugged into your phone it won't ring.
To eliminate this possibility, use a new toothbrush or anti-static to clean out the port. Next, test out your ringer again. Is it working?
Repair
If you've tried all of the steps above and your Google Pixel still won't ring, it's possible your phone is broken. We recommend reaching out to Google support for help getting it repaired. Depending on your warranty status you may be able to get your device fixed for less. Google offers walk-in and mail-in repairs, it all depends on which option you prefer.
