What Are Apple AirTags?
Apple AirTags are a tracking device that will help you locate misplaced items. It's similar to Find My iPhone, except that AirTags are a physical product your can attach to almost anything.
How AirTags Will Work
The April 2020 Apple support video that accidentally leaked AirTags showed that this new device would be supported within the same Find My interface. Presumably, users will be able to locate their tagged item or play a sound on the AirTag within the Find My app.
When Will Apple AirTags Be Released?
The first reports of Apple AirTags being in development came in April 2019. Some analysts expected AirTags would be released in the first quarter of 2020, but that never happened. Others have speculated that certain versions of iOS 13 and iOS 14 include code that would give some functionality to AirTags.
Unfortunately, the AirTags launch has been repeatedly delayed. We don't have a projected release date, but we don't expect to see AirTags being sold anytime soon.
This isn't the first time we've seen an extended delay on a new Apple product. Apple spent years trying to develop a wireless charging mat called AirPower, only to discontinue the project in 2019.
How Much Will AirTags Cost?
While pricing has yet to be confirmed, we expect AirTags will cost a bit more than other key finders on the market. The release of the AirPods Max made it clear that Apple isn't afraid to price up their products relative to the competition.
For instance, Tile sells a two-pack of Bluetooth item locators for about $50. Don't be surprised if Apple doubles that price!
