Verizon Prepaid 5 GB

The Verizon Prepaid Plan with 5 GB of high-speed data is our favorite cell phone plan. Along with 5 GB of cellular data, this plan includes unlimited minutes and messages. You can also use your data for mobile hotspot.

Even if you use all of your monthly high-speed data allotment, you can continue to use cellular data at throttled speeds. This means you'll never be charged overages!

Ting Mobile Set 5 GB Plan

One of the most recent additions to the 2020 cellular coverage market is Ting Mobile's Set 5 GB plan. Ting recently announced a completely new structure for their plans and pricing, getting rid of their previous Build Your Own Plan model. Despite their more consistent pricing scale, Ting's characteristic flexibility remains!

The Set 5GB plan comes with unlimited talk and text, as well as 5 GB of high speed data. When you sign up for this plan, you're free to use this allotment for 4G LTE or 5G data, as well as mobile hotspot.

An added benefit to Ting's coverage is that they use both GSM and CDMA networks. Regardless of what type of network your cell phone's compatible with, it's likely you'll be able to bring it with you when you switch!

Verizon Start Unlimited

Verizon's Start Unlimited Plan is one of Verizon's least expensive unlimited plans. It's an even better deal when you start adding lines. If you build four line plan, the price per line drops to just $35 / month — the same price as the Verizon 5 GB Prepaid Plan.

The plan includes unlimited minutes, messages, and data, as well as a six-month Apple Music subscription. Unfortunately, this plan doesn't include mobile hotspot.

Verizon Play More Unlimited

The Verizon Play More Unlimited Plan starts at $80 / month, but you can save a lot of money when you start adding lines to your plan. This plan includes unlimited data, minutes, and messages, as well as 15 GB of 4G LTE mobile hotspot. Even if you use the high-speed allotment, you can continue to use mobile hotspot at throttled speeds.

The Play More Unlimited Plan has great perks too. An Apple Music subscription and a free year of Disney+ are included when you sign up for this plan.

Ting Mobile Flex Plan

Another great option available is the Ting Mobile Flex Plan. The Flex plan starts at $10 / month per line and features unlimited talk and text. From there, users can decide how much data they need each month by paying $5 per GB.

An added benefit to this plan is that it allows for shared data across multiple lines. If you and your family need a versatile shared plan and don't want to pay top dollar, this is a great way to go!

AT&T Prepaid 8 GB

The AT&T Prepaid plan with 8 GB is an affordable cell phone plan with all the essentials: unlimited minutes, unlimited messages, and plenty of high-speed data. This plan costs just $25 / month, but you'll have to pay for a year of service upfront.

AT&T currently has an exclusive Buy One Get One offer one the new iPhones too!

Tello Mobile Economy

If you're on a tight budget, Tello Mobile's Economy Plan is a great option. For just $10 / month, you get unlimited minutes, unlimited messages, 1 GB of high-speed data, and access to mobile hotspot. You can continue to use cellular data at throttled speeds after you've used that 1 GB of high-speed data.

Tello Mobile Unlimited Plan

Tello Mobile's unlimited plan is a good deal for people who want unlimited data, but don't want to pay a whole lot of money. It includes unlimited minutes, messages, and data, with a 25 GB high-speed data cap. This plan also includes mobile hotspot.

Mint Mobile Unlimited Plan

Mint Mobile just released its first unlimited plan. This plan includes unlimited minutes, unlimited messages, and unlimited data with a high-speed data cap of 35 GB. It also includes mobile hotspot, 5G access, Wi-Fi calling, and unlimited calling to Canada and Mexico. All for $30 / month!

In addition to great and affordable coverage, Mint Mobile's also currently offering another competitive perk. If you sign up for a 3 month Mint Mobile plan today, you'll receive another 3 months of coverage for free!

About Pay-As-You-Go Plans

Should I Get A Pay-As-You-Go Plan?

A pay-as-you-go plan is a plan in which you pay your carrier for every minute, messages, and gigabyte of data you use over the course of the plan term. While this sounds like a pretty simple system, there's one important thing you should know before signing up for one of these plans — the amount you'll pay is almost always more than you would with a regular prepaid or postpaid plan.

One example is the H2O Wireless Pay-As-You-Go Plan. H2O Wireless has many excellent cell phone plans, but this isn't one of them.

Like most cell phone plans, the H2O Wireless Pay-As-You-Go plan doesn't have annual contracts or hidden fees.

One variation of this plan is the $10 / 90-day model. There is a 5-cent charge per minute of calling or per text sent or received, as well as a 10-cent charge per megabyte for data.

Based on these rates, visiting ESPN's website once and not clicking on any links or articles will use six megabytes of data, costing you 60 cents. That's ridiculous!

And, since loading images and streaming video uses up a lot of data, you might run out of your $10 allotment on this particular plan after just 10 minutes of scrolling through Facebook.

Instead of signing up for a pay-as-you-go plan, choose one of the plans we recommended above. You'll save a lot of money when you do!

Hi David, I am a remote employee and need a phone plan with hot spot capability that allows me to do conference calls, VPN, and remote desktop 8 hours/day, 5 days a week. Do you have a recommendation? Thank you!

Hi, Steve! You can use our cell phone and cell phone plan comparison tools to find something that fits your needs. If you want my personal recommendation, based on the needs you specified it sounds like you need a phone with excellent battery life, mobile hotspot, and great Bluetooth connectivity (so you can use a wireless headset for those conference calls.) It’s also important that you search for phone plans that come with mobile hotspot enabled.   I think that a great Android phone for you might be the Galaxy Note 20 5G. It has all the features you’re looking… Read more »
